4 Months Old!

I can't believe it, but Lydia Grace turned 4 months old yesterday! It's been amazing to see how much she has grown over this short amount of time. Tim and I are amazed each day by this tiny little miracle of life.

Lydia is STILL teething and has not cut her first tooth. It's made for a few long days/nights and one trip to the doctor's office to make sure it wasn't actually an earache causing her pain. Thankfully her ears looked great, and we found out that she now weighs a whopping 14.2 pounds!!! The doctor even called her a chunk! We have her 4-month checkup next week where we will find out how long she is now and get an updated weight.

Last night we gave Lydia her first taste of solid foods. It was great! We knew that she was eager to begin solids because she has become VERY interested in our food...to the point where she has tried to bite down on one of my french fries!!! She figured out the process pretty quickly. I was a little surprised that she seemed to know exactly how to use the spoon, though she didn't always know how to keep all the food in her mouth! We made quite a mess, but it was so much fun!!! By the end of the meal, she was sitting in her highchair with her mouth wide open letting us know that she wanted more!!

We also took Lydia to the Birmingham Zoo this month. She seemed to have a great time...she was so curious about all the different animals. We were able to feed the giraffes, which was a lot of fun! She looked very interested in these tall creatures and Tim looked at them as if he were looking at a future boyfriend of Lydia's, "Don't even think about it, buddy!".
We had a blast! We can't wait until next summer when Lydia is a little older and can understand more of what's going on. We're planning to purchase memberships so that we can enjoy all the activities they provide for kids and families. We were also excited to learn that they will be breaking ground on a new attraction at the zoo called African Savannah (I think that's the name). But it will be a large area where zebras, giraffes, elephants, etc. can roam freely with each other! It's been a few years since they've had elephants and I'm excited that they are planning on having 4 next year!! They have big plans for the Birmingham Zoo and I hope that if you're in the area you will visit to see the great things they are doing there!

Lydia also experienced her first pool experience this month! At first, she wasn't quite sure what she thought about the whole thing. Slowly she began to have a little fun, though we still have a lot of work to do! I can't wait to see how she does with the sand and salt water at the beach in September!

Another exciting first this month was Lydia's first laugh! It caught us a little off guard, but was very funny! There is just something about Otis that cracks her up. Any time he comes near her, she stops what she's doing and just stares at him. If he does his spastic shaking or spins around with his toy, she rolls with laughter! Unfortunately, right now she has my laugh...the hahaha *gasp for air* hahaha *gasp for air* kind of laugh. Poor girl... Here are some pictures from right after her first laugh...but of course she stopped doing it when the camera came out. I have it on videotape, however I haven't figured out how to put it in the blog yet.

Sadly, the summer is coming to an end and with that comes the beginning of school and daycare. I have thought all summer that I would be a wreck on Lydia's first day of daycare. However, the past few weeks of working in my classroom while also trying to be Mama at the same time have shown me that she needs daycare (and so do I!). She currently has my full attention and does not like it much when I have to focus on something other than her. To say that she goes ballistic screaming is an understatement. While I know the first week of daycare will be hard on the both of us, I know it will be beneficial in the long run. For those of you who work with me, please remind me of that every day next week because I'm sure I'll need the reminder!

That's all for now. I hope you all are doing well and had a wonderful summer!
